Representative Mike Glanton

Mike Glanton has been a public servant/volunteer/leader for over forty (40) years. He is a United States Army Retired Airborne Combat Veteran and has worked as a Federal and State employee. He has spent significant time in over thirteen (13) countries and lived in eighteen (18) different cities around the world. Rep. Glanton began his political career serving with the Clayton County Democratic Party. He was elected to the State Committee for the Democratic Party of Georgia serving on the Voter Registration and Constituency Groups sub-committees. He is in his seventh term as a DPG State Committee member. He is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions. Among his awards are the Federal Humanitarian Service Medal, the Kuwait Liberation Medal, and the Georgia Secretary Of State’s Outstanding Citizen Award. He is the recipient of the Army Commendation Medal (5th Award) and the Army Achievement Medal (7th Award). He is Clayton County Arc’s 2008 “Legislator of the Year”. He is the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce “Community Service Award” recipient for 2008, and was selected to the Georgia Chamber of Commerce 2009 “Honor Roll”. He served as Chairman of the nine-member Clayton County Legislative Delegation from December 2009 through January 2011, and also served as its Secretary during the 2007-2008 legislative sessions. He served two consecutive terms in the Georgia House of Representatives before vacating his seat to run for the State Senate in 2010. Rep. Glanton was re-elected to the House of Representatives in 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018.

During his tenure in the House of Representatives, he introduced and passed significant revenue generating legislation for the Cities of Jonesboro, Forest Park, Riverdale and Morrow and Clayton County totaling over 1.5 Billion dollars in potential revenue and development. He has personally risen over $400,000 dollars in donations for local nonprofits. He is credited with passing Ethics Legislation (HB 1302/743) for the Clayton County School Board in efforts to regain the System’s Accreditation. He is a founding member of the nationally renowned Elite Scholars Academy Charter School. A 2012 Georgia School of Excellence and 2014 National “Blue Ribbon” designated school. He introduced and passed legislation bringing public transportation back to Clayton County (Marta/HB1009). Rep. Glanton also served as the Chairman of the Clayton County Ethics Committee commissioned by the Board of Commissioners to rewrite the County Code of Ethics in 2008. He is a2012 nominee for the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia Leadership Award for Leadership Development Advocate of the Year. He is a 2017 Toll Fellow and Kentucky Colonel. He is a licensed and ordained Minister and serves as the President of the Clayton County Ministers Conference and is a co-founder of the Coalition of Clayton County Clergy. Rep. Glanton serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for a general consulting Company. He represents Clayton County in the 75th District of Georgia.

He resides in Jonesboro with his lovely wife Pearla (Kauai, Hawaii). He is the proud father of five adult children and grandfather of seventeen and great-grandfather of two.
